Ouch!

Well the good news is that Mortimer's lump wasn't a tumour...the bad news is that he's had a pretty bad reaction to his sutures and he swelled up a lot. He's much improved now but managed to open up his wound and so today he had a staple put in to close it. He squeaked a bit but didn't bite (he's so brave when he wants to be!).

Anyway, here's a picture of him getting a hug :)

Recuperation

Mortimer's operation today was successful and he was back at home before 5pm. We've put him on his own in the old cage with a wooden hut for him to hide in and a comfy bed for him to relax on instead of a hammock. He's obviously in a lot of discomfort but he is eating which is good news.

He seems to really like the bed :)

Please Think Positive Thoughts

Mortimer is going to the vets tomorrow. We found a couple of lumps on his side (not attached to bone like Wheelers) and the vet is going to remove them. Odds are on they are cancer and it'll only buy him a few weeks but he's in good health and spirits and we hope it'll give him a better quality of life for the time he has. Anyway fingers crossed for 'the big fat squishy' we're all hoping the op goes well tomorrow!

Morning nomming - with Mortimer getting Senior Aid in the morning we've taken to giving all the boys a breakfast snack so he can finish his Senior Aid before he gets it pinched.

After breakfast it's back to bed.

We treated the new pair to a Sputnik since it can be suspended from the top of the cage it offers a nice hideaway that is a bit different from the hammock and higher up than the beer box or similar on the bottom.

Walter was spotted sleeping in this rather uncomfortable looking pose two nights in a row so presumably it's comfier than it looks!

Traumatic afternoon!

Poor Mortimer went to the vets yet again today to try and get his digestive problems sorted out for about the 3rd time. If it wasn't bad enough that he had to be molested he got an anti-biotic injection. And to top it all off he managed to rip a claw out while he was there so did his usual impression of geyser spurting blood everywhere.

Needless to say he's not speaking to Kateri (who took him to the vets) but she's gone off for a few days break anyway leaving me and the Boys to watch TV and eat junk food!

Raleigh vs Dust Mit

When we got Walter and Raleigh, Mel (Debonayr Rats) gave us a duster mitten that she'd been intending to turn into a pouch for the rats to climb in and some clips to attach it to the cage. Well I decided that since today was a day off I'd make the pouch. So I trimmed off the top (so that it was it's widest and stitched it over. Then hung it up in the cage.
