Mortimer - August 2008 to January 2011
We said goodbye to Mortimer at 3:35pm today. He had been with us for about 82 rat years and for every one of those he brought us joy and happiness. We buried him beside his brother.

Sleepy Mortimer
Mortimer is really ill. He's really old and it's no great surprise but still really sad. He's off his food and he's never lost appetite before, despite all his ailments. I fear a final vet trip is inevitable tomorrow. Having said that we are making the most of our time together with plenty of hugs, snoozles and company.

Christmas Fun

Each rat found a cracker in their stocking - filled with an apple strudel. Not that they were that impressed!

Mortimer is a Munching Master
Since Mortimer's back legs have pretty much called it a day he can't really sit back on them to eat. Instead he has adopted this position with one front paw down while the other holds and rotates the food. On the downside this is a tad slow so we've taken to bringing him out on his own so he can enjoy his special high calorie nom without fear of the other trying to pinch it before he can finish.

Mortimer Update
Mortimer has been rather poorly. He had a lump which we decided to leave (though keep a check on). Anyway it turned out to be an abscess - poor boy had another trip to the vets - yet more antibiotics and some serious emptying later (the mental scares of which will stay with Tom and I forever) and he's doing much better.
